We advise to wear walking boots as the ground is uneven both outside and inside the scarehouses, and you walk across grass etc to get to the light show. The toilet block was large so we never had to queue and they were kept clean. Scary clowns and guys with chainsaws stalk the barn so even while queueing you are not safe! lol We were lucky that it did not rain, but in the main area this would not be a problem.

Music plays throughout the barn which keeps the crowds entertained. It only lasts 5 minutes, but is fun and sometimes you just need a break from the pitch black / flashing lights and people jumping out at you of the scarehouses! We didn’t go in the fairground but we did enjoy the nearby light show a couple of times. I totally understand this is to the protect the staff as they do get up in your face on occasions! But also thought that wearing masks while queuing should possibly be required, as many times groups got very close This was made clear to use when buying tickets and again in several emails sent out afterwards. We bought mulled wine and mulled cider to keep warm while watching the show, they were tasty and not badly priced at £3 each, although very small cups.įace masks must be worn inside the Scare House attractions. Parts of the show felt rather burlesque at times as all the female performers were very pretty and dressed in very revealing outfits! but again good to keep the drunks engaged! lol Thirty minute shows run on the hour every hour, 7pm - 10pm. Fire eating and tricks, escapology, just enough variety to keep the drunken groups in the crowd entertained. And afterwards got front row standing by the tables to watch the show at 7pm.

I picked the earliest time slot (6.30pm) and we walked straight into our first scarehouse. We visited the Saturday night before Halloween (30th) and although it was obviously busy, it was nowhere near as crazy busy as we had thought it might be! There was a long queue to get into the scarepark but the longest we queued for a scarehouse was around 15 minutes. But extra visits are £5 each per scarehouse. We had thought we could go in as many times as we wanted to or could be bothered to queue for. The only thing the website doesn't make clear when you book is that you can only visit each screamhouse ONCE. Our favourite scarehouse was Cornevil - a scary fun house at a carnival! The room where you feel like you're in a spinning tunnel of flashing lights is very well done, I was clinging to the bannister just to keep from falling over and my husband had to drag me along!! Another favourite was the cornfield where you wander the maze of corn and things jump out at you! lol This was such a fun night out, we would definitely recommend! Even my husband who didn't really want to go (we've been to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida and what can beat this!) was pleasantly surprised and ended up really enjoying all the scream houses. Seen as it’s a legal requirement to isolate and I had no option to attend. The people that did attend the event really enjoyed it and would come back again. I think this is really bad considering most other companies/events have been supportive of people testing positive throughout the pandemic and refunding them without a quibble, as they don’t want people turning up with positive results. They wanted proof of covid positive results if I wanted to change the whole booking which I could of supplied, but still would not of resulted in me being refunded or letting the other half of the party still attend. The other five people still wanted to go, so I lost out on my four tickets, as explained previously, you had to either change the whole booking or lose the money on the people that couldn’t go. I rang at 9am and was told I literally had one hour to get in touch with the other people and decide what to do as they needed to resell their tickets…. We had to either cancel the whole booking (of 9 people as we had booked altogether) and they’d transfer the day out to next year (no refund) or the five people that weren’t covid positive could still go but I would lose out on the cost of my 4 tickets at 16.50 each. I rang york maze and explained the situation. We all tested positive for covid receiving the results first thing in the morning of the event. Booked a group of nine to go to hallowtween on 31st October, myself, my husband and two of our children weren’t feeling great the day before the event so got covid tested the day before the event.
